I just got a new mac. These are the things I did to increase productivity, based on what I’m used to.

  1. Keyboard settings Open up “Keyboard” settings. Set “Key repeat rate” and “Delay until repeat” to “Fast” and “Short” respectively. When you’re back-spacing and moving the cursor around with the arrow keys, it’s as snappy as can be.

  2. Mouse settings Under “Mouse” settings, turn off natural scrolling. I really don’t get how “natural scrolling” is natural. Set “tracking speed”, “Double click speed” and “Scroll speed” to the last or second last setting depending on what feels better.

  3. Dark Mode Under “Appearance” Select Dark mode

  4. Quick Zoom Under “Accessibility”, select “Use Scroll gesture with modifier keys to Zoom” and practise this by holding down the ^ Control button and scrolling.

  5. Download Rectangle I used to love Spectacle. Rectangle is the closest tool (https://rectanglemac.app/) The window resizing+positioning shortcuts (Cmd+opt+Left arrow/Right arrow) are really useful. I feel like a fish out of water if this shortcut doesn’t work.
